Description

Cacophonous merriment lasting all throughout the night was not a difficult task with the forms and vigor granted by the mysterious ways of the city. The dark was shattered by crackling fireworks and the quiet drowned out by parades and parties as dozens of cultures celebrated the new year in their own way. Another year of immortality lived; another yet to come. Eventually the dawn came, announcing the beginning of the next solar cycle and transforming the citizens once again into men and women. The fatigue of their revelry soon set in and the streets grew quiet as they returned to their homes to sleep. But not everyone chose these hours for their rest. Among the few who remained active were messengers, continuing to deliver the mail in the hours before the celebrations of the new year's day would begin. Among that mail were red envelopes, addressed to friends and colleagues of a particular man and woman: an announcement of the marriage that had taken place between Wen Ta Yeh and Rosette Füeller.

----------Translations----------
喜喜 : Happiness1
大業 : Wen Ta Yeh
豪花環 : Füeller Rosette2
Fraülein : Young lady
Frau : Wife
zhàngfū de huáibáo : Husband's embrace3

----------Fun Facts----------
1. This is a common symbol in Chinese weddings. It is composed of the character for joy repeated. Things that come in pairs are considered good fortune, and the joy is held by both parties.
2. This is a meaning-based translation into Chinese using the German meanings of Rosette and Füeller (making up the meaning for the latter). Romanized it would be Háo Huāhuán, which translates to "courageous wreath." This may get retconned to a phonetic translation later.
3. The phrase is romanized to make the pronunciation clearer. 1892 did not yet have established guidelines for romanizing Chinese characters.
4. The earliest Chinese legal document concerning marriage between Chinese and Westerners was Regulations upon Marriages between Chinese and German People in 1888. I found this out after he proposed to her.
5. The dragon and phoenix represent husband and wife. In this case, the husband is literally a dragon.
